Risks and benefits

Risks are a part of every change that happens. Predicting these risks in advance helps to minimise the effect they have on the solution if there is an issue in the future.

While risks are an issue with the integrated solution, it is likely that the benefits of each solution, and the solution together will far outweigh the risks of failure. The integrated solution will improve domestic and international profit for the New Zealand beer industry, as well as increasing the efficiency of the brewing process. It will also decrease both the amount of waste products dumped into the environment and the amount of glass that needs to be recycled, as well as improving the overall safety of glass bottles.

Some levels of investment will be required in order to progress the integrated solution, as shown in the timeline. Research and development of certain parts of each solution will be required in different levels, so the investment to develop these new materials and procedures will vary depending on the material that needs to be developed, and current levels of research. Investing in hops involves each individual brewery investing in hops and land in order to both grow the market and secure enough hops for their own needs. This investment is a relatively safe one as the demand for New Zealand hops in the international market is high.

Together, these investments and benefits will help to improve the beer industry for the future, as well as improving the process in four of the main areas of beer production.
